Modigliani at the Tate Modern until the 2nd April 2018
Modigliani. The name summons up his paintings – portrait and nudes – with a definite intensity and seduction. This exhibition, which has just opened at the Tate Modern, offers portraits of his muses and close friends, his nudes obviously, but also his lesser-known, radical and thought-provoking sculpture. It also includes a virtual visit to his Paris studio (for which tickets are separate but free). After my introduction to Modigliani himself and to his work, we will visit the exhibition together. We will deconstruct his remarkable style, examine what might explain the extraordinary prices his work commands ($170.4 million in 2015 for his Nu Couché!), and talk about his legacy.
Visit time: approx. 120 minutes
Next dates proposed:
- Wednesday 10th January, 10.30 am
- Thursday 11th January, 10.30 am
If you cannot make these dates, I am able to find additional dates. The same applies if you would like to arrange a private group.

After our successful exploration last year, we will return to Mayfair to open the doors of the art galleries and look at some of the best art in town! We will start at the Photographer’s Gallery with Wim Wenders’ Polaroids. After we’ll walk to Hauser & Wirth, Ordovas, the Mayor Gallery, Lévy Gory, Mazzoleni, Sprüth Magers and David Zwirner, to look at work by among others Marcel Broodthaers, Gilbert & George, Gary Hume, the Italian “Light in Motion” artists, and Sherrie Levine.
As usual, either the curator or I will talk you through the work as we go along. It should take us about an hour and three quarters (but please allow two hours). Please do book your places as soon as possible.
